My paintings reflect my own way of being. They have a sense of calm, a thoughtfulness; they also have moments of exuberance and energy.
Living in the Southern Pennines, most days I walk, run or cycle out on the moors. The combination of big open spaces, solitude and physical exercise allows my mind to wander freely. Ideas bubble up to the surface and my first job when I get home is to write them all down! I organise my ideas and thoughts into a variety of sketchbooks and notebooks, but even so there are always plenty of scraps of paper lying about.
The natural world is vital to my own well-being. Painting is how I acknowledge and celebrate that.
